Kenya’s Commitment at the UNGA Climate Summit
In a landmark moment for climate action, the African Youth Climate Assembly (AYCA) convened from September 1st to 3rd, 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya. This pivotal gathering set the stage for the inaugural African Union Heads of State and Government Africa Climate Summit (ACS), with the outcomes of the Assembly poised to influence the African Heads of State and Government Nairobi Declaration. The AYCA Nairobi Declaration and Ambition Statement echo a resounding commitment to safeguarding our planet for current and future generations, acknowledging the imminent threats of climate change.
Africa’s Youth at the Forefront
One undeniable fact underscores the urgency of addressing climate change: we are bequeathing this planet to today’s youth and the generations yet to come. With Africa’s youthful population expected to constitute 42% of global youths by 2030, there’s a unique opportunity for harnessing this demographic dividend in shaping a green growth agenda. The Organization of African Unity’s vision, as outlined in Agenda 2063, sets the stage for Africa to lead the way towards a sustainable future.
Youth Inclusion in Climate Governance
The AYCA Nairobi Declaration emphasizes the need for meaningful and inclusive youth engagement in African climate change frameworks. It calls for the embedding of youth participation in the decision-making processes, acknowledging that the majority of Africa’s population is young. The goal is to create green jobs, sustainable development, and climate resilience, driven by the collective power of African youth.
Skyvast International’s Commitment
At Skyvast International, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the vision outlined in the AYCA Nairobi Declaration. Our unwavering commitment to environmental conservation, climate resilience, and community empowerment perfectly aligns with the objectives set forth by AYCA. We recognize the critical role of young people in protecting and preserving the environment, as they are the inheritors of the Earth.
Our initiatives are designed to empower and educate the youth in the use of technologies that protect and conserve the environment. Through our CSR programs, we have provided support and training to youth organizations, encouraging environmental preservation through initiatives such as waste reduction, recycling, and tree planting programs. We firmly believe that by fostering youth participation in the design, implementation, and evaluation of environmental policies, we can help conserve Africa’s natural resources at local, national, regional, and international levels.
Additionally, we are dedicated to building the capacity of young people in climate change mitigation efforts, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and funding required to actively participate in the green growth agenda. Our various programs, such as the Youth Sustainable Agri-business Initiative, focus on engaging youth in sustainable agricultural practices and building resilience.
As we look to the future, Skyvast International is committed to being a catalyst for change, supporting the aspirations and commitments outlined in the AYCA Nairobi Declaration. We understand the urgency of addressing climate change and are dedicated to playing our part in creating a more sustainable and equitable world for all. Together with Africa’s youth, we can work towards a brighter, greener future.
